Cabramatta Deserves Better Rail Access
CABRAIL — the Cabramatta Alliance for Better Rail Access, Investment & Links — is calling for a better Future Rail Network. Transport for NSW is proposing major changes to T2, T3 and T5 services that could affect how Cabramatta residents reach the city and Western Sydney.
We support digital signalling upgrades for more trains, direct trains to Bankstown via Sefton, and trains from Leppington to Western Sydney Airport. Residents, commuters and local businesses deserve genuine consultation. Learn what is proposed, then have your say.
CABRAIL’s priorities for better rail access
Cabramatta Alliance for Better Rail Access, Investment & Links (CABRAIL) advocates for practical improvements that deliver more trains, better connections and direct access to Western Sydney’s future destinations.
Digital signalling upgrades for more trains
Upgrade digital signalling to increase train frequency and capacity across the existing network. This is the fastest and most cost-effective way to improve services for Cabramatta commuters.
Restore a direct train to Bankstown via Sefton
Restore a direct Cabramatta-to-Bankstown service via Sefton. This would improve access to the Metro Southwest connection and support more convenient cross-city travel.
Extend Leppington trains to Western Sydney Airport
Extend services from Leppington to Western Sydney Airport itself—not only to Bradfield, which is south of the airport. Cabramatta commuters deserve a practical rail connection to the airport.
Understanding the Future Rail Network
CABRAIL has prepared these answers about Transport for NSW’s proposed changes and what they could mean for Cabramatta residents and commuters. Read the key details, then have your say on the future of Sydney’s rail network.
Transport for NSW’s proposal changes how several Sydney Trains services operate. It would remove direct T2 trains to the City via Granville, shorten the T3 Liverpool Line so passengers change at Lidcombe, and create a new T5 Cumberland Line with tunnels from Merrylands to Epping via Parramatta and extensions to Bradfield.
The T2 Leppington Line would no longer provide a direct City service via Granville. Passengers would change at Parramatta for a train to the City. The T3 Liverpool Line would be shortened, removing the direct City route via Regents Park and requiring a change at Lidcombe.
The proposed T5 Cumberland Line would use new tunnels from Merrylands to Epping via Parramatta. The proposal also includes extending trains to Bradfield, which is south of Western Sydney Airport—not directly to the airport.
Cabramatta passengers may face extra changes, longer journeys, and less convenient access to the City if direct T2 and T3 services are removed or shortened. CABRAIL is calling for genuine consultation, not secret planning to cut all trains to the City on the T2 and T3 lines.
CABRAIL advocates digital signalling upgrades as the fastest and most cost-effective way to run more trains. It also supports restoring a direct Bankstown service via Sefton to improve access to Metro Southwest, and extending Leppington trains to Western Sydney Airport—not only Bradfield. Have your say about the proposed network changes affecting Cabramatta.
